International Federation of Building and Wood Workers

The International Federation of Building and Wood Workers (IFBWW) is the Global Union Federation (GUF) protecting workers in the building, wood, forestry and allied sectors. 289 unions from 125 countries belong to IFBWW with a total of more than 10 million affiliated members. The IFBWW is providing a global platform and a network to globalize trade union rights and working conditions.
Multinationals are becoming the dominant force in employment and international financial institutions also exert an influence in defining the economic and development policies of borrowing governments. As these issues are of a global nature and have repercussions on trade union rights, the IFBWW launched the Global Labour Clauses Programme to develop trade union responses to these challenges.

International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions

The ICEM is a industry-based world labour federation dedicated to practical solidarity. It unites trade unions in its sectors on all continents. Its aim is to become a truly global trade union.
Its main focuses are (amongst others):
negotiating and monitoring global agreements with multinational companies - mainly on workers' rights, equality at work and the highest standards of health, safety and environmental protection worldwide
networking trade union reps within global corporations
providing information and expertise on topics ranging from collective bargaining to health and safety standards
representing workers' interests within the UN, its agencies and other intergovernmental bodies.

International Metalworkers' Federation

The International Metalworkers' Federation represents the collective interests of 25 million metalworkers in more than 200 unions in 100 countries. The IMF is a federation of national unions - a union of unions - in the metal industry at world level. The IMF head office is in Geneva, Switzerland, where worldwide activities are coordinated with a network of regional offices.
International Framework Agreements (IFAs) are a relatively recent tool but one now widely used by the IMF and other Global Union Federations to lay down the rules of conduct for transnational companies. Since they are negotiated on a global level and require the participation of trade unions, International Framework Agreements are an ideal instrument for dealing with the issues raised by globalisation.

The IUF is currently composed of 336 trade unions in 120 countries representing a combined membership of over 12 million workers. It is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The IUF seeks to create an international union counterweight to the power of the TNCs. We fight for union recognition at every level, including international level. We have won international agreements on global respect for trade union rights with leading companies within the IUF sectors. In our struggle for recognition of the IUF and its affiliates at international level, we are working to extend these agreements to other TNCs.
