Pacific Environment and Resources Center

Pacific Environment protects the living environment of the Pacific Rim by strengthening democracy, supporting grassroots activism, empowering communities, and redefining international policies.
There are many government-sponsored institutions that make harmful projects of multinational corporations possible. We stay on top of the activities of organizations like the WTO, the World Bank, and Export Credit Agencies worldwide. We keep our ear to the ground for new policies and agencies that impact the environment.

Public Citizen

Public Citizen is a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded by Ralph Nader to represent consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts. We fight for openness and democratic accountability in government, for the right of consumers to seek redress in the courts; for clean, safe and sustainable energy sources; for social and economic justice in trade policies; for strong health, safety and environmental protections and for safe, effective and affordable prescription drugs and health care.
Global Trade Watch was created in 1995 to promote government and corporate accountability in the globalization and trade arena. The campaign promotes a public interest perspective on an array of globalization issues, including implications for health and safety, environmental protection, economic justice, and democratic, accountable governance.

publish what you pay

International oil, gas, and mining companies pay billions of dollars a year to the governments of many less developed countries that are rich in natural resources, such as Angola and Nigeria. Few of these countries' citizens benefit from this financial windfall, however, because of government corruption and mismanagement.

The "Publish What You Pay" campaign aims to help citizens hold their governments accountable for how these resource-related funds are managed and distributed. George Soros and a coalition of more than 80 NGOs (including the Open Society Institute and the campaign's co-sponsor, Global Witness) place the onus on wealthy countries' governments to require transnational extraction companies to publish net taxes, fees, royalties, and other payments made so civil society can more accurately assess the amount of money misappropriated and lobby for full transparency in local government spending.
